PebblePad for assessors

An Introduction to PebblePad for assessors to explain what is ATLAS, what is a workspace, and how to access and assess learners' work using the tools available.

Who is an assessor?

As assessor is any staff member working with learners to provide formative or summative feedback and assessment.

To perform your role you will need access to learner's work. This is done by viewing a submission via ATLAS.

As a staff member, you have full access to PebblePad - both Pebble+ and ATLAS.

Non-staff members working with learners are considered an External who only have access to ATLAS, not Pebble+.

What is ATLAS?

ATLAS is PebblePad's assessment area - Active Teaching Learning and Assessment Space. It provides two key functions:

1. Organisational structure

Your ATLAS is organised to reflect how your courses and modules are delivered.

  • Regions - typically represent faculties or schools.
  • Workspaces - typically represent a discipline, course or module.

2. Assessment tools

ATLAS contains a wide range of functions and tools for the assessment of learners' work, as well as the ability to run reports to monitor progress and attainment.

What is a workspace?

A workspace is a digital classroom within the wider ATLAS environment. It contains all the functions and tools to conduct learning and assessment for one discipline, course or module:

  • People - the learners, assessors, and (if necessary) externals
  • Assignment(s) - the work required to be completed
  • Resources - teaching materials and/or structured workbooks and templates
  • Submissions - work to be assessed

Your ATLAS environment will contain many workspaces. As an assessor you may be enrolled in many different workspaces, one per course or module - depending upon how your ATLAS has been organised.

To view submissions you must navigate to the correct workspace where the activity is taking place. The permissions given to you may differ between workspaces, so certain actions you do may not always be the same.

Contact your workspace manager or platform administrator for help with access and permissions.

How to navigate ATLAS?

Your ATLAS dashboard will list all the workspaces you are enrolled in and provide a link to access them.

Within a workspace, you can use the menu tabs to move between each section.

To move between workspaces, return to the ATLAS dashboard by clicking the PebblePad logo in the menu bar. Or when finished, click the logout icon.
