Introducing PebblePad for external users, starting with who is an external user, when an account is needed, and how do you provide assessment and validation.
Who is an external?
An external user is a non-staff member of the institution who needs to view learners' work to comment, feedback or validate, and provide:
- Assessment for learners
You are working directly with learners to coach them, or provide validation of their work. - Validation for assessors
You are providing external validation of existing feedback or grade weightings.
Is an external account needed?
An account is not needed if you:
An account is needed if you:
- provide any summative assessment (feedback, grades, approvals, etc).
- access work via ATLAS (including to view-only).
An external account can be provided to an individual person, or one account for a group of externals - known as a centre-based account.
To obtain an account, a request must be sent to the institution where the learner is studying.
How to access submissions
To assess a learner's submission, an external user does not access the learner's account. Instead, you are given access to individual assets (submissions) which are opened via your own external account.
Depending upon how an assignment has been set up, access is provided by:
- a learner - who shares their work via a direct link
- a workspace manager - who enrols you to a workspace where the work is submitted.
Your external dashboard will tell you which type of access has been given. If you are working with multiple learners for different assignments, the type of access may differ for each.
