Assess with Turnitin

Where integrated, Turnitin can be used with PebblePad assignments. Send a submission for a similarity report check and use Feedback Studio to assess and grade.

Work with Turnitin

When working with Turnitin for a PebblePad assignment, the process is:

  1. Learner shares work with ATLAS for assessment
  2. Assessor submits work to Turnitin
  3. Assessor synchronises Turnitin back to ATLAS
  4. Assessor releases Turnitin report to learner

A workspace manager must first connect the ATLAS workspace with a Turnitin class.

Submit to Turnitin

A learner cannot submit their work directly to Turnitin. This process must be done by an assessor, who can choose to submit:

  • one learner's submission only
  • a group of learners' submissions
  • all submissions in an assignment

To submit:

  1. With the correct assignment list displayed, tick to select the submissions
  2. Click the Turnitin button
  3. Click Submit to Turnitin

Each submission will be converted to a PDF, sent to Turnitin and a similarity report generated.

Resubmit to Turnitin

Each time a submission is altered by a learner in the ATLAS workspace, it will need to be resubmitted to Turnitin for the similarity report to be valid.

When resubmitting, any existing grades or assessment in Feedback Studio will be deleted.

Open Feedback Studio

From the ATLAS workspace, you can open Turnitin's Feedback Studio. In it, you can access all the assessment tools, including:

  • read the similarity report
  • add a number grade (out of 100)

To open:

  1. Click the View Turnitin Information icon of the submission
  2. In the pop-up modal, click Open GradeMark
  3. Feedback Studio opens in a new browser window

Visit Turnitin's Support Centre for more Instructor guides.

Sync from Turnitin

When a similarity report has been produced by Turnitin, or a submission has been graded in Feedback Studio, this will need to be re-synchronised from Turnitin back to the ATLAS workspace.

To sync:

  1. With the correct assignment list displayed, tick to select the submissions
  2. Click the Turnitin button
  3. Click Synchronise with Turnitin now

The similarity report percentage and/or the submission grade will be added to the submission list columns in the ATLAS workspace.

Each time a submission is altered in Turnitin, it will need to be resynced with ATLAS.

Release to learner

A similarity report, feedback or grades added to Feedback Studio are withheld from learners until they are released by an assessor. This is a separate process handled outside the usual managing feedback process.

To release:

  1. With the correct assignment list displayed, tick the submissions to release
  2. Click the Turnitin button
  3. Click Turnitin
  4. Click Release Turnitin Feedback
  5. Check the feedback to be released and click Confirm
