Give a grade

A grade can be added to a submission as a traditional number or letter grade, or by using a scorecard to assess work against a set of pre-determined criteria.

Traditional grade

Where enabled on the workspace, a grade can be added to a submission. The field to type the grade is a single line text area, allowing you to input any format, e.g:

  • Letter - A to F
  • Number - 1 to 100
  • Binary - Pass / Fail

To add:

  1. With the submission open in Submission Viewer, click the sidebar icon to open it
  2. Click the Feedback tab
  3. Click the I want to... button and choose Add grade
  4. Type a grade into the text field
  5. Click Save & Hold/Release.

Scorecard

A scorecard provides a set of pre-determined assessment criteria to assess work against. The scorecard will be set-up in one of two ways:

1. Unweighted

Add a number to each row, and the cumulative score is added to the bottom of the scorecard.

2. Weighted

Each row contains a percentage quota, and when combined total 100%. To assess, add a number out of 100 to each row to determine the percentage awarded of this quota. For example:

  • Row quota (25%) - assessment awarded (100) - total awarded (25%)
  • Row quota (25%) - assessment awarded (50) - total awarded (12.5%)

To use:

  1. With the submission open in Submission Viewer, click the sidebar icon to open it
  2. Click the Feedback tab
  3. Click the I want to... button and choose Add scorecard.

  4. Type numbers into each row.
  5. Click Save & Hold/Release.

Alternative grade

An optional field may be available to include a free text grade. This allows you to be aware of the calculated number, and override it with a text grade, e.g. Pass or Fail.

Overview of grades

When a grade has been added to a submission, a record is included on the submission list in the workspace for quick reference. This also indicates if the grade is being held, or has been released to the learner.
