Manage LTI workspace connections

The PebblePad LTI integration provides synchronisation between a VLE course and an ATLAS workspace. These can be managed by connecting and disconnecting links.

Connect a workspace

When a Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) course is connected to an ATLAS workspace using the LTI integration, it enables:

  • User and enrolment synchronisation
  • Single Sign-On access (from VLE to PebblePad)
  • Assignment synchronisation and direct resource access
  • Grade synchronisation (from ATLAS to VLE)

A course-to-workspace connection is formed when the first PebblePad assignment is added to a VLE course. During the setup process, you can choose to connect to:

A brand new workspace
This creates a new workspace without resources or settings applied. These can be added after the LTI link has been established.
A copy of an existing workspace
This creates a new workspace, with the option to copy components of an existing workspace, e.g. resources and settings.

Assignments and enrolments should not be copied for LTI-linked workspaces.
An existing workspace
This connects to an existing workspace to reuse its resources and settings.

As a workspace can only be linked to one course at a time, only unlinked workspaces will be selectable.

Workspace Managers must already be enrolled to the workspace, and be assigned the Manage assignments permission.

Organisation and Region Managers do not need to be enrolled to the workspace but must have the permission to Manage workspaces for this region.

If the existing workspace contains:
  • multiple assignments - choose which to connect to during the initial setup, and create further assignment links in the VLE to connect other existing unlinked assignments.

  • enrolments - manually added accounts will remain. A new user group will be added containing the synchronised accounts from the VLE, or a previously synchronised group will be updated.

To connect:

  1. Follow the assignment set-up process for your VLE:

Create a PebblePad assignment in Blackboard

Create a PebblePad assignment in Brightspace

Create a PebblePad assignment in Canvas

Create a PebblePad assignment in Moodle

  2. Choose the workspace to connect to by selecting either new, copy, or existing.

View LTI workspace connections

An LTI overview is provided for all workspaces within a region to show the:

  • presence of a link
  • version of LTI used
  • web address of linked VLE course

To view:

  1. From the ATLAS dashboard, click the region title.
  2. Click Workspaces
  3. The LTI Status column confirms a connection and LTI version.
  4. In the workspace row, click the 3-dot icon.
  5. Choose View LTI info.
  6. Further information is provided, including the VLE course web address.

Disconnect a workspace

A connection between a VLE course and an ATLAS workspace can be removed.

Where the workspace contains multiple linked assignments, the connections must be removed one assignment at a time.

Upon the final linked assignment being removed, the overall connection between the VLE course and the ATLAS workspace is also removed.

To disconnect:

  1. From the ATLAS dashboard, click into the region title.
  2. Click Workspaces
  3. In the row of the workspace, click the 3 dot menu
  4. Click View LTI info
  5. (For multiple assignments) Select the assignment and click Continue
  6. Tick 'I wish to remove this LTI link'
  7. Click Remove LTI Link
  8. Repeat to remove all assignments and overall workspace link

The PebblePad assignment link in the VLE must also be removed manually after the assignment, or workspace, has been deleted if it is no longer required.
