An approval is a colour-coded rating used to quickly assess learner work, at the block level with capability approvals, or the page level with asset approvals.
Capability approval
Where a capability block is used in a template or workbook page, an assessor can add a capability approval. This is a colour-coded approval rating to quickly, and visually, indicate assessment.
The statements attached to each rating colour can be customised by a workspace manager, but typically they are used to indicate that:
- Red - does not meet standard
- Amber - further work is required
- Green - demonstrates the required standard.
Where block feedback is activated, an +Add button is attached to all blocks to give text feedback. However, RAG approvals are restricted to capability blocks only.
To add:
- Scroll to the capability block on the page
- Click the +Add button and choose Add approval
- Use the dropdown to choose an approval status
- (Optional) Write feedback in the text area,
- Click Save and Hold/Release
A post is added to the feedback sidebar, and an accompanying icon added to the capability block on the page.
History
Where a learner receives multiple approvals on the same capability block, a history of all approvals is kept. The most recent approval added is represented on the page.
Asset approval
An asset approval uses a colour-coded rating to quickly, and visually, indicate assessment on an individual page, or an overall asset.
The statements attached to each rating colour can be customised by a workspace manager, but typically they are used to indicate that:
- Red - does not meet standard
- Amber - further work is required
- Green - demonstrates the required standard.
In addition, there are three levels available for an asset approval. A typical use might be:
- Level 1 - assessor provides a red, amber or green approval on a submission
- Level 2 - a second assessor provides a second assessment to agree or disagree
- Level 3 - an external assessor provides an independent review to agree or disagree
To add:
- With the submission open in Submission Viewer, click the sidebar icon to open it.
- Click the Feedback tab.
- Click the I want to... button and choose Add Approval [Level one].
- Use the dropdown to choose an approval status.
- (Optional) Write feedback in the text area.
- (Optional for workbooks) Tick to save to current page, or untick for whole workbook.
- Click Save and Hold/Release.
Typically, each assessor is only given access to the relevant approval level.
Overview of approvals
When an asset or capability approval has been added to a submission, a record is included on the submission list in the workspace for quick reference. This also indicates if the approval is being held, or has been released to the learner.
