Create a PebblePad assignment in Canvas

The workspace manager can set-up an ATLAS assignment to integrate with a Canvas course and provide learners access to Pebble+ tools and templates to use.






About PebblePad and Canvas


When a PebblePad assignment is incorporated into a Canvas course, it provides:





When the two platforms are connected at a local level, Canvas course to ATLAS workspace, it sets-up:




The Canvas course roster will synchronise to the ATLAS workspace with these roles:

Role recognition


When the assignment link is clicked by a Student (learner) in Canvas, it can either:


  • Open Pebble+ onto the dashboard, or,
  • Open Pebble+ and directly into a selected template or workbook, or,
  • Open Pebble+, directing into a selected template or workbook, with auto submit enabled.


When the assignment link is clicked by an Instructor (assessor/manager) in Canvas, it:

  • Opens ATLAS into the workspace.



At minimum, you will need to be a region creator to set-up a Canvas-linked assignment. Contact your platform administrator for assistance.







Add a PebblePad assignment to Canvas


Adding the first PebblePad assignment link in Canvas will set up both:


  • course-to-workspace connection,  
  • assignment-to-assignment connection.





To add:

  1. In the Canvas course, click into Assignments.
  2. Click the +Assignment button
  3. Type an assignment title, add instructional content, and set points to 100.
  4. Choose External tool from the Submission tool dropdown
  5. Click Find and choose PebblePad ATLAS LTI 1.3
  6. Tick Load this tool in a new tab.
  7. Click Save and Pubilsh.
  8. Click Load [assignment title] in a new window to open the ATLAS wizard.
  9. Choose Active mode from the options.
  10. Click Finish to set-up the workspace.
  11. Complete the assignment settings and click Save.
  12. Close the browser tab to return to Canvas.


Assignment dates set within Canvas will not synchronise into the ATLAS workspace.

Add a resource to assignment link


A custom template or custom workbook can be associated to the assignment link, directing a learner straight to it when Pebble+ is opened. 


The resource must be owned or co-owned by you, or made available as an Other ATLAS Resource.



To add:

  1. Click the assignment link in Canvas to open the ATLAS workspace.
  2. Click the Resources tab.
  3. Click the folder icon to add a resource.
  4. (Optional) In the auto-submit panel, choose Yes and select the correct assignment.
  5. Search for the resource and click Select item.
  6. In the panel, Destination for VLE/LMS link, choose Yes and select the correct assignment
  7. Tick the confirmation and click Continue.

Add multiple assignments


Additional PebblePad assignments can be linked from the same Canvas course to the connected workspace.



To add:

  1. In the Canvas course, click into Assignments.
  2. Click the +Assignment button
  3. Type an assignment title, add instructional content, and set points to 100.
  4. Choose External tool from the Submission tool dropdown
  5. Click Find and choose PebblePad ATLAS LTI 1.3
  6. Tick Load this tool in a new tab.
  7. Click Save and Pubilsh.
  8. Click Load [assignment title] in a new window to open the ATLAS.
  9. Complete the assignment settings and click Save.
  10. Close the browser tab to return to Canvas.
